Find a room. Or fill one.

The same app that runs your share house also helps you find your next one, or replace the housemate who just handed in notice.

Looking for a room

1

Search near you

Rooms are indexed by location, so you can search a suburb or draw on the map and see what is actually nearby, filtered by rent, room type, furnishing and whether bills are included.

2

Save and get alerted

Save the rooms you like and set a search alert. When a new room matches what you are after, you hear about it before it is gone.

3

Message the lister

Message directly in the app, or reveal contact details when you are ready to arrange an inspection.

Listing a room

1

List in a few minutes

Photos, weekly rent, room type, what is included, and what you are looking for in a housemate.

2

See who is interested

Enquiries and interested seekers collect in one place instead of scattering across three different websites.

3

Boost when you need to

Pro Plus includes listing boosts that push your room to the top of local results for a week.

Why it is different from a classifieds site

On most listing sites the relationship ends the day you move in. Here it starts: the same app that found you the room then tracks your rent, splits the bills and shares the chores with the people you just moved in with.

What to check before you commit

The expensive mistakes in a share house move are nearly all made in the first week, usually by not asking something that felt awkward at the time. Before any money changes hands, establish the total monthly cost rather than just the rent, confirm what the bills typically run to, and find out whether you are going on the lease as a co tenant, signing a separate agreement, or subletting from a head tenant. That last point decides your liability if somebody else stops paying, and it is the question people most often skip.

Then photograph everything on move in day and complete the condition report properly. It takes an hour once and it is the evidence that settles any bond dispute later. Our moving in checklist walks through the full sequence.

Questions about finding a room

How much does it cost to list a room?

Listing is free. The free plan includes two active listings that run for 30 days each. Pro extends listings to 90 days and allows five, and Pro Plus is unlimited with three listing boosts a month.

How do I search for rooms near me?

Rooms are indexed by location, so you can search a suburb and see what is genuinely nearby rather than scrolling a whole city. Filter by weekly rent, room type, furnishing, whether bills are included, parking and internet.

Can I save rooms and get alerted to new ones?

Yes. Save any listing to come back to, and set a search alert so you are notified when a new room matches your filters. Free accounts get one alert and ten saved listings, Pro gets five alerts and unlimited saves.

How do I contact a lister?

Message them in the app, or reveal their contact details when you are ready to arrange an inspection. Free accounts get three contact reveals a month, and Pro has no limit.

What should I put in a room listing?

Weekly rent, bond, whether bills are included, room size and furnishing, the earliest move in date, who already lives there, and any non negotiable house rules. Specific listings get fewer replies and better ones.

Is Mates on Rent only for Australia?

The app works anywhere, and subscriptions are priced locally in Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Canada and India. The room marketplace is strongest in Australian capital cities.
